  • Emily in Paris season 5, which was released on Netflix on Dec. 18, leaves Emily Cooper's love life up in the air

  • The hit romantic drama series follows Lily Collins as the titular character who navigates her professional and love life abroad

  • Season 5 also focused on her best friend Mindy (Ashley Park) and her own love triangle

Emily Cooper has embarked upon yet another whirlwind adventure!

Emily in Parisseason 5, which hit Netflix on Dec. 18, left off on a major cliffhanger for Emily (Lily Collins) with both her professional and romantic future. As the season played out, Emily ventured through Rome, Venice and Paris with her boyfriend, Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini), while also serving as the head of Agence Grateau's Rome office.

In trueEmily in Parisfashion, Emily must make several important decisions about her career and her love life. Along the way, she puts out fires across Italy and France, from fashion disasters to one of her closest relationships getting turned upside down.

"Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance," Collins toldTudumahead of season 5. "We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time."

In addition to following Emily's love life, the series also showcased her best friend, Mindy (Ashley Park), as she navigates a love triangle of her own. Of course, it wouldn't be anEmily in Parisseason without a few final twists and turns along the way!

Here's everything to know about howEmily in Parisseason 5 ended.

How doesEmily in Parisseason 5 end?

As season 5 plays out, Emily appears to be more confident than ever while working as the head of Agence Grateau's Rome office and navigating her work-life balance with her boyfriend, Marcello, who is also one of her clients.

Although Emily and Marcello hit a few rough patches along the way, they ultimately end up throwing a successful fashion show together during Venice Fashion Week. Marcello exceeds expectations, and his mother, Antonia (Anna Galiena), is so impressed that she makes him the head of the House of Muratori.

As part of that arrangement, Marcello must move back to his home in Solitano, Italy, and manage the brand from there. He asks Emily to move with him there to "build a life together" and lead the "best fashion company" with him.

While Emily initially feels flattered and thrilled by the opportunity, it isn't until she thinks Marcello is about to propose to her — with a diamond ring she found in his bag — that she realizes she would be giving up the life she made for herself in Paris for a romantic partner.

"It's not my life," she tells him on a romantic gondola ride. "It's a beautiful dream, but it's just not mine."

Do Emily and Gabriel get back together?

Caroline Dubois/Netflix

Over the last five seasons, Emily and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) have had a will-they-won't-they dynamic, and their evolving friendship continues playing out in season 5.

Earlier in the season, Gabriel initially flew to Rome to try to win Emily back, but after he meets with her, he realizes that she seems happy with Marcello and lets her be.

Later on in the season, Gabriel and Emily reconnect for a second time when Emily returns to Paris amid her woes with Marcello and works from the Paris office. Since Gabriel is the head chef at one of her clients' restaurants, he asks her to consult when the two butt heads. As a solution, Emily gets Gabriel a job offer as a billionaire's private chef on his yacht in Greece, and the two part ways once again.

However, Emily and Gabriel's on-and-off-again relationship end with on a major question mark after Gabriel finds out that she and Marcello have called it quits for good. Gabriel takes a risk and sends Emily a postcard asking if she'd like to spend a few weeks off with him in Greece, but viewers don't see how she responds.

"I don't know what the future holds for Gabriel and Emily," Collins toldTudum. "I appreciated that they were able to say goodbye gracefully, without knowing what comes next. Emily is supportive of his adventures and career, and she respects his journey without interfering. That kind of graceful goodbye felt deserved for the characters, and I'm not entirely sure where it will go from here."

What happens in Mindy's love triangle with Alfie and Nicolas?

Caroline Dubois/Netflix Ashley Park as Mindy and Lucien Laviscount as Alfie in episode 501 of Emily in Paris.

While many of the past seasons have revolved around Emily's love life and career, season 5 also took a special interest in her best friend, Mindy, who also finds herself in Rome for work. There, she starts to develop a close friendship with Emily's ex, Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).

Before Mindy and Alfie know it, their friendship turns romantic and they have an Italian fling. Both of them are determined to not let it interfere with their friendships with Emily and refuse to let it turn into a full-fledged relationship.

However, after they return to Paris together, they can't help but think they have developed genuine feelings towards each other. They prepare to tell Emily about their true feelings, but their plans get a wrench thrown into it when Mindy's on-again-off-again boyfriend Nicolas (Paul Forman) sees her and begs her for another chance.

Mindy decides to see Nicolas again, but things take a turn when Emily finds out about her best friend and ex's fling. Although she's initially hurt by the deception, she finds a way to move past it since she wants Mindy to be happy above all else.

As the season progresses, so does Mindy and Nicolas' relationship, and he proposes. Mindy accepts but is still left thinking about Alfie — especially after he tells her he still has feelings for her.

The season ends on another cliffhanger for Mindy's love life when she and Emily run into Alfie back in Paris, and she thinks about what could have been. Alfie also warns her about marrying Nicolas, which leaves Mindy more confused than ever.

"By the end of the season, everything really hits the fan: Mindy might be engaged, but there's still tension with Alfie," Collins told Tudum. "It'll be interesting to see how that drama unfolds."

Is Emily still involved with Agence Grateau?

Caroline Dubois/Netflix Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie Grateau and Lily Collins as Emily in episode 506 of Emily In Paris.

Caroline Dubois/Netflix

While Emily was busy working with Marcello in Agence Grateau's Rome office, she was unaware that her boss, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), was struggling to run the company more than ever.

Even though the Rome branch was facing its own problems — including a disastrous Muratori promotion strategy — Sylvie was reeling from major financial problems created by her estranged husband, Laurent (Arnaud Binard).

Amid the company's financial strains, Sylvie is relieved when she finds out about the potential of Emily leaving with Marcello to find her own in-house success and even expresses how much she cares for her, after all. However, Sylvie later learns that Emily turned down the role, and she now must face the difficult truth of the company's position.

In order to save Agence Grateau from being sold or shut down altogether, Sylvie accepts financing from her longtime friend, Princess Jane (Minnie Driver) — who already butted heads with Emily when they worked together earlier in the season. With the money Jane gives the company, she is now an equal partner with Sylvie.

HGTV designer David Bromstad went to rehab after storm destroyed home

David Bromstad revealed he attended a treatment center while filming his newHGTVspecial, which premiered Friday, Dec. 19.

The HGTV star said he struggled with substance abuse after a storm destroyed his dream home in Florida mid-renovation, according to a clip from "My Lottery Dream Home: David's Happy Ending" shared byPeople. As a designer, he said he didn't realize how interwoven the home was with his own mental health.

Designer David Bromstad speaks on a panel during the HGTV portion of the Discovery Communications Winter 2019 TCA Tour at the Langham Hotel on Feb. 12, 2019, in Pasadena, California.

"I got into some unhealthy behaviors, and it's really easy to go there when you're under distress," Bromstad said. "I knew I was in trouble."

He continued: "I think with the house, with where I'm at emotionally, physically, spiritually, psychologically, everything has stopped. I was literally screaming out for help."

How was David Bromstad's home destroyed?

Bromstad, 52, said extreme water damage, flooding and excessive mold required him to destroy his "childhood fantasy" home and start from square one. Realizing the toll the devastation took on his mental health, he decided he had to address his own personal struggles.

"I decided it's time. I need to put my house on hold, and I need to check myself into some sort of program," he said. "I need to talk. I need to climb out of this hole. I need to understand why I climbed into it in the first place."

He explained the home was intended to heal his own trauma, including grappling with bullying, depression and growing up closeted as a queer teenager.

"I was exactly this amount of gay, this amount of perfect, but that was not celebrated, that was looked (at) in a different way back then," he added. "I was super depressed. I was super bullied. And so for me to idealize my childhood was a complete defense mechanism that was beautiful; it saved me."

Bromstad confirmed he was sober in an August 2023 Instagram post after a trip to Norway celebrating his 50th birthday, during which he climbed 2,000 steps up Reinebringen Mountain in the Lofoten Islands.

"Letting theses moments pass thru me has given me a intense clarity Building foundations! Feels good to be present, sober and living the life I was intended to live," he wrote.

  • The Instagram unfollowings come amid a tumultuous time for the Beckham family, who are navigating a feud that was rumored to have begun after Brooklyn wed Nicola Peltz Beckham in 2022

DavidandVictoria Beckham's following count on Instagram has decreased — as has that of their eldest child,Brooklyn Peltz Beckham.

Brooklyn, 26, no longer follows his parents on the social media platform, and the retired soccer star and the fashion designer no longer follow him back. Brooklyn does not follow either of his brothers on Instagram, nor do they follow him back. The same is applicable for Nicola, 30.

The Instagram unfollowing between the Beckhams comes amid atumultuous time for the famous family.

Back in 2022, BrooklynmarriedNicola in an elegant wedding in Palm Beach, Fla., where they were surrounded by their family and friends. The happy occasion also marked the start of a rumored family rift between Brooklyn and Nicola and the rest of the Beckham family.

At the time, rumors swirled of tension between Nicola and Victoria, because the actressopted not to wearone of theSpice Girlsalum's wedding dress designs, despite originally planning to. Asource told PEOPLEearlier this year that the rumors of a clash were real, while a second insider told PEOPLE that the dress situation is "far from the truth."

A source also told PEOPLE that the drama increased when Victoria allegedlyhijacked a dance at Brooklyn's wedding, despite her son and Nicola's planned moment for the song, which was performed byMarc Anthonyas a gift to the newlyweds.

Back in May, Davidcelebrated his 50th birthdaywith astar-studded celebrationin London. Victoria, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, all attended, but Nicola and Brooklyn were absent, despite receiving an invite to the event.

A source told PEOPLE shortly after that Brooklyn and Nicolaopted to skip the eventbecause of Romeo's girlfriend,Kim Turnball, whom the insider claimed was once linked to Brooklyn. However, Cruz replied to a commenter on an Instagram post at the time saying that "Brooklyn and Kim never dated," which was something another source also claimed to PEOPLE, and Turnball similarlydenied the rumors herself.

The Beckhams' tension has played out in the public eye in recent months, with members of the familysharing cryptic posts on social media.

Brooklyn shared a video of himself and Nicola riding a motorcycle, captioned with a loving tribute in which he said he would "always choose" her, in May, and just hours later, Cruz shared a family photo on his own account, writing, "I love you guys more than anything, mum & dad, you gave us life and cared for us no matter what. A source told PEOPLE earlier this year that mending the Beckham family rift hasn't been easy. "Every time they finally have a happy moment,it all falls apart again," the insider explained. "They've tried to make peace."

"Brooklyn feels torn. It's his family and blood, but he's always had a complicated relationship with his dad. A lot of their relationship has felt like 'business,' " the source added.

Still, despite the rift, a source told PEOPLE that the Beckham family's strained relationship doesn't have to be permanent.

"The relationship is definitely not beyond repair," the insider said, adding of David and Victoria's relationship with Brooklyn, "They love and are always there for him."

"They're just hurt and disappointed that he's now playing no part in family life," the source continued.
