Sigourney Weaver Reveals Her Biggest Regret About 'Galaxy Quest': 'We Just Lost Heart'

More than two decades afterGalaxy Questbecame a beloved cult classic, starSigourney Weaveris still hanging on to one lingering regret.

In a recent interview withDeadline, Weaver, 76, weighed in on the question fans have been asking since the film premiered in 1999: Why isn't there a sequel?

The answer, as it happens, is truly heartbreaking. Despite years of interest and discussion, the deciding factor was the death of her co-star, Alan Rickman, in 2016.

"We always meant to do a sequel," said Weaver. "And then with Alan passing away, we just lost heart."

Galaxy Quest, which also starred Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub and Daryl Mitchell, has long been praised for its affectionate satire of the science fiction genre and Hollywood excess. Over the years, rumors of a sequel, reboot or extended cut have repeatedly surfaced, largely fueled by fan enthusiasm and the film's enduring popularity.

Weaver confirmed that there were genuine conversations about continuing the story, including revisiting deleted scenes and expanding the film's legacy. However, Rickman's death made those plans feel incomplete. His portrayal of Alexander Dane—an actor forever tied to a singlesci-firole—became one of the film's emotional anchors, and it felt impossible to envision continuingGalaxy Questwithout him. Rickman's performance, both comedic and deeply human, helped elevate the film beyond parody.

"I wish they put out a director's cut of the movie because, at the last minute, DreamWorks decided to release the movie with some of the more sophisticated scenes cut that Alan was in," Weaver lamented. "Why they don't put out the movie again with more of his very, very strange and wonderful scenes?"

WhileGalaxy Questmay never receive the continuation many hoped for, its legacy remains firmly intact. The film continues to find new audiences, often cited as one of the smartest and most affectionate tributes to science fiction ever made.

Tom Brady Shares Cryptic Message After Ex-Wife Gisele Bündchen Marries Joaquim Valente

Tom Bradyraised eyebrows this weekend after he posted a cryptic message to Instagram following news his ex-wifeGisele Bündchenhad remarried.

OnFriday, Dec. 19, news broke of the supermodel marrying her jiu-jitsu instructorJoaquim Valenteon Dec. 3 surrounded by a small group offamilyand friends at their house in Surfside, Florida.

The next day, Brady postedtwo snapsto his Instagram Story which have since expired. The first one showed him standing in a black T-shirt and shorts while holding a football. He captioned it, "LFG," which stands for "Let's F--king Go."

The second story, however, is what grabbed fans' attention. In that post, Brady snapped a selfie of himself wearing a "Forever Young" hoodie with the caption "Yuppppppp💯."

The post was set toLogic's "1-800-273-8255," a song named after the previous phone number for the American National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

The song depicts a first-person perspective call to the hotline, with lyrics such as "I don't wanna be alive" and "I just wanna die today."

Afterscreenshotsof Brady's story circulated widely on social media, fans began wondering if the post hinted at his mental state following the wedding news.

"damn i can't think of a cleaner kind of pain than this. the person you loved most moves on... new guy, new kid, & new wedding. all basically in one breath," wrote one fan onX. "tom brady has everything anyone's told to want. still doesn't spare you from that kind of emotional velocity. absolutely f--king brutal."

"Usingmusicfor good - powerful. Hope everyone involved is doing okay and getting support they need," said another.

"No matter who's at fault, seeing the woman you love drop you and get pregnant and married soon after f--king hurts, badly," added a third.

Others were less kind to the 7-timeSuper Bowlchampion, who famously retired and un-retired from the NFL in 2022. It was been widely speculated that Brady's decision to stay in the league caused strain in his marriage to Bündchen, culminating in their divorce later that year.

"what you get when your gorgeous gorgeous wife basically begs you forever to retire and be present for your family, you decide to retire, then your old greedy ass walks it back and she stands on business!" said one user.

"[Gisele] gave him 1000 chances and every single time he chose football over the family they created. Let him cry. She's happy now and he realizes his loss," commented another.

"Brady clearly knows timing matters," wrote a third. "Using a serious song after personal news sends a message, whether intentional or not. Social media is loud, and public figures turn every post into commentary. People will read between every line."

Ukraine is leveraging its powerful – and cheap – new drone killers for air defense

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The icy ground crackling under their feet, members of an elite Ukrainian drone-hunting team set up for a long night.

Antennas and sensors are clipped to a light stand. Monitors and controls are pulled from hard cases, and a game-changing new weapon is readied for deployment.

The Sting, shaped like a flying thermos, is one of Ukraine's new homegrown interceptors.

The unit's commander says the interceptors can effectively counter Russia's fast-evolving suicide drones, which are now flying faster and at higher altitudes.

"Every destroyed target is something that did not hit our homes, our families, our power plants," said the officer, known only by the call sign "Loi," in line with Ukrainian military protocol. "The enemy does not sleep, and neither do we."

Nightly attacks on Ukrainian cities and power infrastructure have forced Kyiv to rewrite the air defense rule book and develop cut-price drone killers costing as little as $1,000.

Interceptors went from prototype to mass production in just a few months in 2025 and represent the latest shift in modern warfare.

Effective defense in Ukraine depends on mass production, rapid adaptation and layering low-cost systems into existing defenses instead of relying on a few expensive, slow-to-replace weapons.

Models like the Sting – made by the volunteer-driven startup Wild Hornets – and the newly appeared Bullet can surge in speed before crashing into enemy drones. They are flown by pilots watching monitors or wearing first-person-view goggles.

The economics are crucial. Andrii Lavrenovych, a member of the strategic council of the fast-growing startup General Cherry which develops the Bullet, says the drones they destroy cost anywhere from $10,000 to $300,000.

"We are inflicting serious economic damage," he said.

Russia favors the Iranian-designed Shahed suicide drone and has produced multiple variants of the triangle-winged craft, armed with jammers, cameras and turbojet engines in a constant battle of innovation.

"In some areas they are one step ahead. In others, we invent an innovative solution, and they suffer from it," Lavrenovych said.

Federico Borsari, a defense analyst at the Washington-based Center for European Policy Analysis, says interceptors are a valuable addition to Ukraine's — and Europe's — anti-drone arsenal.

"Cheap interceptor drones have become so important, and so quickly, that we can consider them a cornerstone of modern counter-unmanned aerial systems," he said. "They realign the cost and scale equation of air defense."

Their mobility and low cost allow them to defend more targets, but Borsari added: "It would be a mistake to see them as a silver bullet."

Their success, he said, depends on sensors, fast command and control as well as skilled operators. They can be used in a menu of options that starts with multimillion-dollar missiles and ends with nets and antiaircraft guns.

Defense planners in Ukraine and NATO expect the hyper-scaling of drone production on both sides of the conflict to continue in 2026, adding urgency to European plans to create a layered air-defense system known as the "drone wall."

The network along Europe's eastern borders, to be rolled out over two years, is designed to detect, track and intercept drones, with Ukrainian-style interceptors playing a potentially central role in destroying threats.

Ukrainian drone makers are set next year to expand coproduction with U.S. and European firms. Merging battle-tested designs and valuable data with Western scale and funding, the collaboration would boost output and embed Ukraine in NATO-member supply chains.

Another inevitable trend, Lavrenovych argues, is increased automation.

"Our mobile groups shouldn't have to approach the front line, where they become targets," he said.

"Drones must become fully autonomous robots withartificial intelligence— as scary as that may sound — to help our soldiers survive."

Volodymyr Yurchuk and Efrem Lukatsky contributed to this report.
